Name: ART24 – Good Timber
Artist: Gail Stirling Robertson
Inspiration for the design comes from the metaphorical poem ‘Good Timber’ by Douglas Malloch, which suggests that only by struggle can we overcome adversity and reach the other side. The trees in the design have fought and grown together so their uppermost branches can ‘hold counsel with the stars’. The woodland floor is laced with bluebells which are thought to symbolise gratitude.
Gail is a self-employed artist who works mainly in acrylics, but dabbles occasionally in pastels or pen and ink. She exhibits in galleries throughout Scotland and this accounts for about half of her output, the other half being commission based. Gail feels very lucky to earn a living doing what she loves.
